The results sheet has now been split between Time Trial bike riders and Standard Road Bike riders - click on the tabs at the bottom. You now gain points after each ride and you must ride a minimum of 8 rides of either discipline to be in with the chance of winning either classification. 50 points for first, 49 for second etc.
Hopefully, this will add an interesting little twist for those who regularly compete with other riders of a similar ability.

24 August 2011 - 1mile sprint

Picture
Malton Wheelers rounded of the year on Wednesday evening with a 1 mile sprint on the Malton/Pickering road. The direction of the racing is decided on the night depending on which way the wind is blowing to push the riders along in the hope of a fast ride. The wind was not that strong and seemed to be coming from the side, so the decision was made to head North.
Enticknap did a cracking ride and came in first with 1min 57 seconds, only 3 seconds quicker than Ralph Lilley. Cameron Turner filled in the last podium position with 2:11.
The remaining riders were all on traditional road bikes, Paul Hickman finished with ease with 2:12, while Nick Caddy and Mick Potter with just one second between them, Caddys' 2:16 to Potters' 2:17. Tim Davies (Pictured) brought up the rear with 2:21

17 August 2011 - 2-up 10m Time Trial

Picture
It was a wonderful evening for the last of the "proper" distance of Time Trial held by Malton Wheelers. 10miles of racing on a warm night with very little wind met the racers who were all eager to better their personal best times.
Paul Hickman and Matthew Enticknap worked in perfect harmony riding together as a 2-up with 21:13 and not surprisingly beating second position Ralph Lilly who clocked up a very fast 22:19.
A surprise turn out from Mark Devine (Pictured) greeted the riders with his pink Malton Wheelers skinsuit. Back from a recent illness he put in a cracking time of 23:36 and a podium position to boot.
Mick potter crossed the line in 23:55 beating Barrie Cappleman by one second, while there were 10 seconds between 6th place Sean Mcdermott, 25:10 and 7th, Cameron Turner. Dave Preistman was only 15 seconds behind Cameron.
Tim Davies beat his son, Sam with 26:01. Sam was also riding "2-up" with his friend Sam Harrison and claimed a time of 26:30. Not bad for a first go. Dave Frith brought home the lantern rouge with 26:34

10 Aug 2011 - 10m Time Trial

Picture
The wind on Wednesday evening was rather strong and gustly night with the wind in the faces of every rider heading out to the turn above the A64 at Old Malton.
Malton Wheelers always welcome riders from other clubs to race with them if they are on holiday in the area, and this was the case with Dave Frith from Wales who turned out with a new low profile machine. He crossed the line with 27:21 beating non-aero Time Davies with 27:49.
Winning the Time Trial overal was Matthew Enticknap, although two and a half minutes short of his personal best, he finished with 22:58. Paul Hickman was second with 23:33, Mick Potter at 24:54. Barry Cappleman who has turned up regulaly to Malton Wheelers Times trials crossed the line with 25:28.

3rd Aug 2011 - 6m Leavening Scramble

Picture
Last Wednesday's storms and heavy rain did little to dampen enthusiasm for Malton Wheelers last Leavening Scramble of the season - an exciting 6 mile dash from the end of St Nicholas streeet in Norton to the cross roads in the Village. Previous rain had left a lot of surface water, mud and debris on the road, and with a strong head wind times were not going to be record breaking. All riders opted for the safety on traditional bikes, and to save on cleaning!
Steve Kneeshaw, who likes the hills, came in first with a lightning time of 15.32, closely followed by Paul Hickman (Pictured), always a strong contender, with 15.36. Mick Potter, using aero bars but having jettisoned his mudguard for the extra seconds was third at 16.18, while Nick Caddy nearly caught his minute man with 16.24. Tim Davies collected the lantern rouge on 17.24.   Joan and Jamie kept the times and Ralph Lilley, normally on his bike, took time to marshall and get some action shots on the final hill.

1. Steve Kneeshaw 15:32
2. Paul Hickman 15:36

27 July 2011 - 10,5m Hilly Time Trial

Picture
Perfect conditions! Slight tailwind on the stretch to Slingsby and sheltered on the way back an added bonus was that it was nice and warm and not too much traffic to hinder the eight hardened testers of Malton Wheelers.
Matthew Enticknap shon through to take first prize with 25:40, but only 5 seconds clear of Paul Hickman who is on true form at the moment. Steve Kneeshaw is building up his fast legs by beating personal best on this hilly course by one and a half minutes with 26:53. Nick Caddy was first non-aero rider home with 28:38, but Mick Potter still beat him with 28:22. It was Cameron Turners first attempt on this course and loved it, with experience, his time of 28:56 can only be bettered. Time Davies crossed the line with 30:52, while Nick Hatton rounded of the days racing with 31:12. Come on Nick, you can do better than that!

1. Matthew Enticknap 25:40
2. Paul Hickman 25:45

20 July 2011 - 10m Time Trial

Picture
The threat of rain was ever looming for Wednesdays 10 mile Time Trial organised by Malton Wheelers on the Malton/Pickering road, but cyclists are a hardened bunch and the race was started. Luckily, there was not much wind to talk about, but what wind there was made for a hard return. On the return leg, the heavens opened and the riders were soaked!
Steve Kneeshaw topped the table finishing with a personal best of 23:16. Mick Potter (Pictured) was only 8 seconds away from finishing under the 24 minute mark.
Tandem riders Goode and Graves crossed the line next with  24:28 proving that double the power can be of a benefit. Barry Cappleman next with 24:32, then Sean McDermott and Cameron Turner only one second between them with 24:59 and 25 minutes dead. Dave Priestman brought home the lantern rouge with 27:23.

13 July 2011 - 5m Time Trial

Picture
5 Miles doesn't sound that much really, but when its more than 10minutes of hard effort, with the sound of your blood pumping through your body and the pain in your legs, its more than hard work.
Ralph Lilley is on top form, putting Matthew Enticknap in his place, finishing first with 10:44 to Matthews 10:52.
Paul Hickman finished of the podium positions with 10:57. Only two riders finished with 11 minutes, Steve Kneeshaw - 11:28 and Mick Potter - 11:55, with Barry Cappleman just missing out with 12 minutes dead.
First non aero rider was Nick Caddy, but also coming 8th with 12:33, closly followed by Cameron Turner. First time "tester" was P. Clardy with 13:05.

6th July 2011 - 15m Time Trial

Picture
Six riders turned out for the annual Malton Wheelers 15 mile time trial, including a visitor from Wales currently working in the area. The course, still wet from a torrential downpour, took the riders out from Malton to Thornton le Dale, climbed up the hill before dropping down into Pickering and then back to the A64 roundabout turn in Malton. The wind from the south was against the riders on the longer Pickering to Malton leg keeping overall times down.
Ralph Lilley was fastest by a good margin riding strongly to a time of 34.37, catching all the riders before him bar the rider off number one. A close battle for second place saw Steve Kneeshaw 36:35 beating Mike Potter 36:48 by 13 seconds.
Steve, new to time trialling, continuing to show his potential to challenge the faster riders.
Nick Caddy rode round in 38:41 being the only rider using traditional dropped handlebars. (Pictured)

29 June 2011 - 10m Hilly Time Trial

Picture
A nice evening for a change, although the head wind towards Slingsby was not to anyones liking. Even the hardest of testers found the going rather difficult, which all part of the game really!
The Malton Wheelers Hilly Ten is a rather difficult course which sends the riders up onto the Howardian hills then ends up back at the start at Swinton.
Matthew Enticknap, again won with 26:47 but Paul Hickman was far too close for comfort with 26:54. Ralph Lilley suffered with his choice of gearing but still finished 3rd with 27:54.
It was Steve Kneeshaw's (pictured) first attempt at Maltons 10mile hilly and was very please with the route and his time of 28:25.
Duncan Humphries and Tim Davies brought up the rear with 29:44 and 31:37 respectively.

1. Matthew Enticknap - 26:47
2. Paul Hickman - 26:54
3. Ralph Lilley - 27:54

6. Tim Davies - 31:37

22 June - 5m Time Trial

Another wet and windy night for the Malton riders on the Malton/Pickering road on Wednesday evening meant that many riders were enjoying the comfort of their homes, nice and dry.
Winners of the night were perhaps the time keepers, Joan Bourne and Jamie Strangeway who without fail start and finish each rider every week. A big thankyou from all of Malton Wheelers goes to them.
The rider with the fastest time was Barry Cappleman with 11:43, closely followed by Mick Potter with 11:52. New to Time Trialling was Sean McDermott and proving some faster times are on the horizon, he closed the line with 12:13 on the clock.
Adrian Taylor finished with 12:35 while C Turner was only a second behind .

16 June - 10m Time Trial (Richardsons CC)

Picture
Malton Wheelers 10m TT was cancelled on Wednesday due to a monsoon like downpour, luckily, Richardsons Cycling Club from Scarborough held their TT on the same course the next day. It was dry and relatively sunny, but the wind was still blowing, this time from the West which means the riders could never escape it.
Malton showed true form though beating all Richardsons riders, the podium places being under 23 minutes!
Pictured is Matthew Enticknap, giving it big licks.

8 June - 10m Time Trial

Picture
With the absence of the big hitters who were again racing in Hull, the impressive win came from Ralph Lilley (56) who finished in 23:13. “Wind from the SW made it tough to the turn but the wind was dropping away on the return giving little benefit and causing the return to be a gruelling battle.” Ralph commented.

Overall, the times were slower from previous outings, but Steve Kneeshaw and Colin Baldwin were at each others heels with only one second between them. Steve finishing with 23:43 to Colin’s 23:44.

First outing for Cameron Turner on a fixed wheel bicycle and “Chris Hoy” helmet turned out a respectable time of 26:30. Adrian Taylor brought home the Lantern Rouge after a while off the bike with 27:08.
Pictured is Barry Cappleman in his "Superman" position.

1 June - 6m Leavening Scramble

Picture
Thanks goes to Tim Davies for putting out the signs and many thanks to Ian Farrer for marshalling the crossroads.
There was not much wind tonight, but what wind there was was in the wrong direction. The riders suffered a double whammy - a head wind and hills.
Nick Hatton was out tonight on his new carbon road bike, honking up the road from Norton to Leavening in 18:06 beating Tim Davies by 4 seconds. Rob Farrer (16) loved Leavening hill finishing with 17:33. Topping the riders on normal bikes with "curly handlebars" was Nick Caddy, crossing the line in 16:56.
Four riders rode in the aero position, three of the riders had disc wheels, perhaps not the best of wheels to ride a hilly Time Trial. Mick Potter is an old veteran when it comes to hillys and rode the event really well, finishing in 16:19. The top three riders all finished under 16 minutes, Colin Baldwin (15:53), Paul Hickman (15:15) and first, Matthew Enticknap (15:00).
Pictured - Colin Baldwin, giving it big licks.

26 May - 10m Hilly Time Trial

Picture
Only three riders out tonight and only rider in the aero position, this being Sean McDermott, who beat Nick Caddy with 28.52 to Nicks 28.55.
The rider bringing home the latern rouge was Tim Davies with 31.15.
Perhaps it was the undulating nature of this course that put people off riding.
Pictured is Nick Caddy "bringing it home" for the standard road bike winner.

18 May - 10m Time Trial

Wednesday's Time Trial was a really blustery romp down the Malton/ Pickering road but the road was dry and the sun was shining which made Malton Wheelers race not too bad.
All times were down from the last time the race was held on this course because of the wind, but all riders were racing in the same conditions knowing that a personal best was not on the cards.
New member, Jane Godfrey, crossed the line in 33:43. Perhaps the flapping top acted too much like a sail and made the going a little difficult. If you would like to become a member, its only £10. Steve Suddaby finished in 28:13 with Mike Wilson chomping at his rear wheel with 28:45 and the first time racing this season. Nick Caddy was in the middle with 26:06 while father and son, Mike and Lewis Scott from Scarborough Paragon were racing each other. Lewis beating his dad with 24:55 to 25:09. Barrie Cappleman, in his famed "Superman" position and also from Scarborough clocked up a time of 24:48.
Steve Kneeshaw missed his alloted set off time due to a slipped chain at the start line but managed to have another go and set off last. His time of 23:45 was really close to Colin Baldwins 23:39.
Another Scarborough win goes to Mike Storey with 22:35 with Matthew Enticknap 22:40 in second place and Paul Hickman 23:11 third. Mick is having a great season and at the great age of 60 is an incredible veteran.

1. Mike Storey - 22:35
2. Matthew Enticknap - 22:40
3. Paul Hickman - 23:11
4. Colin Baldwin - 23:39

9. Nick Caddy - 26:06
10. Steve Suddaby - 28:13
11. Mike Wilson - 28:45
12. Jane Godfrey - 33:43

11 May - 5m Time Trial

Second time trial was a 5miler.
Setting off from Low Marishes turn off south towards the A64 roundabout was rather difficult into the headwind but strangely enough, the return leg was not as easy as was expected.
The Farrer family were out this evening racing against each other, Robert, son of Ian, stomped home on his single speed, flat bar bike with 13:23 beating Dad who crossed the line with 14:07. Jane Godfrey came out to race again and finished in a respectable 15:47.
A few riders started thier Time Trial season today, perhaps the bright evening brought them out. Mike Potter 11:49, Nick Caddy 12:48, Tim Davies 13:14 and Steve Suddaby with 13:39. Malton Wheelers welcome them all back to racing.
Chris Goodway, who is recovering from a back injury, still beat Mike Potter with 11:41 to 11:49 and Steve Kneeshaw who is still riding a borrowed bicycle beat them both with 11:29.
Colin Baldwin surprised everyone by turning up in a green skinsuit and riding a time trial bike. In this all new slippy set up his personal best was sure to be beaten. His best time was smashed by 30 seconds over the 5mile course with 11:20.
Matthew Enticknap and Paul Hickman, again were fighting for position, but Matthew pulled through with 11:10 to Pauls 11:13.
Overall winner was Dave Thompson with 10:29. 14 seconds slower than his personal best on the V418/5 course but still thrashing everyone. Dave is now in training for the longer Time Trials when in the Summer will be competing in a 12hour Time Trial.

4th May - 10m Time Trial

The first Club Time Trial of the season kicked off tonight with a 10 mile gallop down the Malton/Pickering road. With a bit of a swirly and cold wind infront of the riders, the evening was not going to be too difficult when compared to the past weekends gales.
There were a couple of first timers tonight, Steve Kneeshaw and the son of Ian farrer, Robert a 16 year old lad riding a single speed machine. We also welcomed all the regulars back for the start of the Time Trial season.
Nigel Streicher beat his personal best tonight by 5 seconds finishing with a commendable 27:12. Duncan Humphries, who is also enjoying road racing and training for an Ironman Triathalon, finished with 25:47, a little off his personal best but is sure to work hard to improve.
Steve Kneeshaw had a cracking ride on a borrowed low profile machine and was very pleased riding his first ever time trial with 24:03 beating many hardened Testers and finishing 3rd. Colin Baldwin, as usual, finished very high and first in the standard road bike category with 24:18.
The tussle between Paul Hickman and Matthew Enticknap continues in open events, but tonights result clearly shows Matthews' love of the competition. Setting off last, Matthew could see Paul infront of him throughout the race, acting like his carrot on a stick, he managed to close the gap by nearly 50 seconds. Matthew beat Paul with 22:13, to Pauls 22:59.

1. Matthew Enticknap - 22:13
2. Paul Hickman - 22:59
