18 August - 10m 2-up Time Trial
When its time for the "2-up" we know the end of the season is nearly upon us. Only a few more open road event left of this years calendar. Cyclo Cross season is just around the corner!
With only six riders taking part in tonights Time Trial, it was decided that solo rides could be ridden if wanted and all riders decided to ride solo.
It was a windy but dry night which was quite unusual considering the recent downpours.
First off was Lewis Scott (25:19), an up and coming Junior who has improved so much in his first season. He is now quicker than his father, Mike (26:08) and now chomping at the heels of old timer Mick Potter (25:18).
Our very own retro rider, Nick Caddy rolled home in 25:39. Barry Cappleman finaly beat Mick Potter with 24:47. The day belonged to Paul Hickman who finished with an impressive 23:19.

11 August - 10mile Time Trial
Another day for uncertain weather although luckily the wind died down to a swirly blow! A bit more difficult on the return leg was the view of most riders although for some, both the outward and return was hell.
With a visiting rider from Ferryhill Wheelers and the usual visitors from Scarborough, there were 10 riders tonight. A bit dissapointing, but the weather was not favourable.
The times varied so much tonight, with our very own veteran, Keith Buck bringing home the latern rouge in 29:34, while Dan Cartman came in at 28:44. Ferryhill visitor, Rob Spink crossed the line in 27:27, then continued his holiday in Filey.
Tim Davies and Nick Hatton returned to racing tonight after working far too much, with times of 26:48 and 25:37. A group of three Scarborians came next, Barry Cappleman, Matthew Purnell and Mick Potter with 24:48, 24:42 and 24:13.
Paul Hickman and Matthew Enticknap continued the tussel, but Matthews love of "bad" days won through. Time were 23:19 for Hickman, triumphant Matthew 22:16.

4 August - 6mile Leavening Scramble
Considering it had rained for most of the day, the Malton Wheelers were greeted with an overcast sky but knew that the rains were not going to happen. The wind even died down, which is ideal for this straight route without a return leg to deal with. The straight route is a difficult one though, it heads up Welham Road then up again to Leavening.
Newcomer to Time Trialing, and son of an old hat of Athletics aand cycling was Matthew Wilson (aged 18). He rode a fantasic ride for his first race finishing in 17:39 to Dads (Mick) 17:26. Heres hoping Matthew turns up for Malton Wheelers 10m route next time. Nick Caddy Crossed the line with a fine flourish with 16:05. Thanks goes to Nick for putting the signs out.
Dancing on the pedals of their Time Trial specific machines where Matthew Enticknap and Paul Hickman. With the time difference between the two decreasing, Paul finished in 14:29 to Matthews 14:17.
Our thanks again, goes to Joan Bourne and Jamie Strangway for Time keeping duties.

28 July - 10.5m Hilly Time Trial
Luckily, we managed to avoid the days downpours, but only four intrepid racers risked getting wet. Headwind towards Slingsby.
Ian Farrer, taking a break from working, found the going difficult due to insufficient training and crossed the line with a time of 34:13.
Mick Potter, a regular visitor from Scarborough Paragon Cycling Club cycled to the event from Pickering and finished with 29:21.
Paul Hickman had a cracking ride finishing only 4 seconds away from Matthew Enticknap, 26:37 and 26:33 respectively.

21 July - 10m Time Trial
Everyone was watching the skies again as some really heavy rain clouds headed towards tonights racers. From a still night, the wind started to pick up giving the riders a side wind to contend with. Although skies were dark the rain failed to materialise.
Mr Zigmond (29:26) headed off first but was soon caught by retro rider, but skinsuited, Nick Caddy (25:35). Ever improving, Sean McDermot finished in 25:55. Dan Joyce, riding his new stead and still with only one gear finished in 25:06. Visiting Scarborough rider, D Priestman came in with 25:01, along with fellow club mate Barry Cappleman 24:20. Malton Wheelers Colin Baldwin was only one second away from Barry with 24:21.
Chris Goodway crossed the line with 23:26. It has been a while since Chris has done a club TT being busy racing at other events and he received a welcome return. Paul Hickman and Ralph Lilley were close tonight with 22:58 and 22:46.
The night belonged to Matthew Enticknap though, finishing more than 30 seconds infront of his nearest competitor with a time of 22:10.

14th July - 5m Time Trial
With the threat of rain, many people didn't turn up. This proved to be the correct decision! As soon as number one, Colin Baldwin set off, it started raining great big drops of water. The thunder in the background helped to urge him home, coming in at 11:54.
Ralph Lilley had to come to a total standstill when an emergency vehicle thwarted his progress. Barry Cappleman, who hates the rain, took it easy around the roundabout, but was still under 12 minutes.
Keith Buck wheeled out his classic fixed wheel grass track bike, having to start himself off (not being held on the start line) he spun away finishing with 14:00.
Matthew Enticknap was the only rider under 11 minutes, but only just, crossing the line in 10:58.
What a soggy ride!

30th June - 10m Hilly Time Trial
A warm night tonight around the Hambleton Hills with quite a head wind on the return leg towards Swinton turn off.
One of our newest riders, Jane Godfrey, brought along a friend tonight, Ms Williams. This was her first ever Time Trial, but was more worried about which way to go. She impressed everyone there with a great time and not too far away from her cycling buddy, Jane.
A cracking time by "on form" Nick Caddy, beating his last time by nearly a minute with 28:28. Another great ride was by Sean McDermott beating his personal best by 2 minutes on this difficult course.
The top three riders were in full Time Trial regalia, with Ralph Lilly sporting a disk wheel - not the best for a hill course - but a time of 26:42 is not to be ignored. Paul Hickman, coming from a heavyload of racing finished a very credible 2nd with 25:59. But after a very heavy weekend of celebration after getting married, Matthew Enticknap came in first with 25:22, knocking more than 40 seconds of his personal best. Its his favourite race next weekend - 15 miles up to Thornton le dale, Pickering and Old Malton.

23rd June - 5m Time Trial
A busy night for races throughout Yorkshire tonight and many Malton Wheelers were elsewhere, therefore the reduced numbers made competing very interesting.
It was a Scarborough Paragon Whitewash tonight with Barry (Bazza) Cappleman who is a first claim member of Scarborough paragon taking first spot (11:41), with Mike Scott taking second (12:12) - but only just - with our Nick Caddy third with 12:19.

16th June - 10m Time Trial
Another wandering wind tonight that hit our backs towards the finish line, which was nice. Warm weather, ideal for a club time trial!
A surprise return from Ralph Lilley showed that a break off the bike can do you some good finishing with a good time of 23 minutes dead on, Paul Hickman was close on his wheel only two seconds away. Colin Baldwin did a fabulous time and personal best (23:35) on a standard bike beating Chris Goodway (23:53) who was racing the night before.
Tim Davies put in a respectful time after riding his vets 100mile ride on the weekend with 26:35.
Keith Buck brought in the Lantern Rouge just missing out of a 29minute ride at 30:01.
Contrary to popular belief, its a 5mile Time Trial next week.

9th June - 10m Time Trial
I think with the prospect of heavy rain and racing near Hull, many of the regulars did not turn up. Although nine riders started tonights 10 miler with what felt like a strong wind on their backs only to find out that it was rather gusty and meandering. Everyone agreed though that the return leg from Old Malton roundabout was incredibly hard work. With an odd wind like tonight, the aero bicycle won through with the top 4 positioned riders all in the low pro position.
Colin Baldwin brought in the first of the standard bike riders with a time of 24:32, with the eventual winner being Enticknap with 23:01.
A cracking ride from visitor, Mr. B Greensmith from Beverley, came in with a fast 23:55. First time on this course and first Time Trial for some time.

2 June - Leavening Scramble
Perfect conditions, warm, with relatively little wind. The small amount of wind was pushing the riders in the wrong direction though on the single leg course.
Enticknap and Goodway took their turn in helping out with the general organising of this event, so the field was open for a new number one!
Tim Davies brought along his son and friend only to find out that experience wins in this game, putting 2 minutes over his son, Sam and friend Sam Harrison. Both Sams were first time, Time Trialers and are expected to go from strength to strength.
An unusual turn up from 1980's throw back, Nick Hatton, put in a 1980's time of 18:37. A fine time on an old steel steed!
Four riders next all between 17 and 18 minutes, Tim Davies, Sean McDermott (triathalon training) Dan Cartman and Mick Wilson.
Nick Caddy put in a cracking ride, not too far away from Mick Potters 16:09. Colin Baldwin was the only guy in the 15minute league while (Paulo) Paul Hickman beat everyone hands down with 14:55.

26 May - 10.5m Hilly Time Trial
Not many riders out tonight, perhaps the threat of rain or the word "Hilly" put people off (or the fact that I didn't revise the website. Doh). Its a good course though and one for the Road Racers amongst us.
New guy, Mr McDermott enjoyed his ride, being his first TT he came back with a personal best of 31:23. The gap between Tim Davies and Nick Caddy grew to very nearly a minute, Tim with 30:19 and Nick with 29:24.
The real tussle came with Colin Baldwin and Matthew Enticknap. Matthew had a great start, catching and passing Colin, his minute man, only to be passed by Colin up hill. This scenario occured three more times until the long down hill before the last turn, the aero advantage won through. Colin finished with a time of 27:16, Matthew 26:09.

19 May - 10m TT
With near perfect conditions, times should be good. What a difference from last weeks wintery conditions.
All the newcomers to timetrialing bettered their previous times. Jane is now only 10 seconds away from going under 30 minutes - every time she rides, she is getting faster. First time out tonight was John Zigmond, a triathlete who fancied a bit of cycle training finished in 28:12. Nigel Streicher hitting the 22mph barrier with a time of 27:17.
Last weeks tie between Colin Baldwin and Adrian Taylor was a distance memory as Col this week finished in 24:15 to Ades' 24:58. Come on Adrian, you can do better than that!
Hats off though to Matthew Enticknap, another win, overtaking his minute man, Chris Goodway and crossing the line in 22:18.

12 May - 5m TT
Enticknaps crown in toppled!
Matthew was beaten by 5 seconds by Mick Storey of Scarborough Paragon this evening who crossed the line in 11:11. Was it due to the very cold conditions or the head wind in both (!) directions? Whatever the reason, all riders rode in the same conditions as everyone else.
Nearly everyone was slower that two weeks earlier apart from Maltons Mark Devine going 2.6mph faster than last time finishing in 11:38. Adrian Taylor was "Dead chuffed" with his time of 12:09 beating one of his lines in the sand, Mick Potter who came in at 12:15.
Tim Davies managed to finish his time trial without puncturing with a very reasonable 13:05.

5 May - 10m TT
A rather odd wind tonight with a head wind in both directions. It was overcast, but the rain held off.
More newcomers to Time Trialing joined us for a 10 mile dash down the Malton-Pickering road. The tussel between Colin Baldwin and Mick Potter continues with tonights dead heat between them, surprising really because Potter was using aerodynamics which Baldwin was "old school" to fight the battle.
Jane Godfrey had an "enjoyable" first ever ride in a Time Trial and now has a time to build on in the future.
Father and Son team, Mike and Lewis Scott were again battling it out on the road, dad putting 58 seconds into his Son.
Dan Joyce and Dave Thompson both turned up on single speed machines, a tough ride if the gear is wrong, but both rode an impressive ride.
Adrian Taylor rode very well tonight getting even closer to his "line in the sand" Barrie Cappleman.
Enticknap overtook his minute man, Hickman, with about half a mile to go, but was overtaken again at the finish line. He finished first overall with 22:24 to Hickmans 23:23.

28 April - 5m TT
One really windy evening, but not from the side which is quite unusual. A head wind to the roundabout greeted all 19 riders from various clubs around Ryedale and Scarborough.
With riders under 16 years old and first timers through to hardened "testers" the times varied between over 15 minutes to under 10 minutes over the 5 miles.
Unlucky Tim Davies punctured on the roundabout, but changed his tube and finished with just over 18 minutes. Just amazing!
Check the results above.
