Click on the file below for full results

The results sheet has now been split between Time Trial bike (A) riders and Standard Road Bike riders - click on the tabs at the bottom.
You now gain points after each ride and you must ride a minimum of 8 rides of either discipline to be in with the chance of winning either classification. 50 points for first, 49 for second etc.
This adds interesting little twist for those who regularly compete with other riders of a similar ability. Prizes are going to be awarded by Big Bear Bikes.

24th July 2013 - 10m Time Trial

Picture
Wednesday evening of the 24 July was a "float" day. A term used by time trial racers to express perfect racing conditions, ie. no wind and warm. Some good times were expected from the 12 racers from the evening.

Paul Hickman (pictured) had a couple of days off the bike to recover after some gruelling races of the weekend which helped to bring the gold medal home once again with a time of 22:05, just 3 seconds off last years personal best for this 10mile course on the Malton/Pickering road. Visitor, Nigel Goscinski is a force to be reckoned with but was first runner up with 22:17 saying "it was rather muggy out there". Steve Kneeshaw was proud of his course personal best though of 22:36.

Ralph Lilley finished in 23:04 with Scarborough Paragon rider Mick Storey in fifth position with 23:57. Triathlete, Sean McDermott crossed the line in 24:13 with Time Trial veteran Barrie Cappleman hot in his heels with 24:25, but non-aero rider Colin Baldwin was not far behind Barrie with 24:44.

First time on a time trial machine was Dave Leaming clocking a time of 25:26. Although pleased with this time he was having trouble with the efforts of racing, perhaps a few more hours top end training a week would put this to rights. David Capes finished in 26:05, with Sam Leng at 27:45, but congratulations must go to Elaine Ward who returns to racing after her long awaited knee operation. She finished in 28:57 and although brining home the lantern rouge, was pleased to be racing again.

17th July 2013 - 5m Time Trial

Picture
It was a lovely evening for Malton Wheelers recent 5mile Time Trial on the Malton/Pickering road where 11 riders turned out for the quick jaunt.

Paul Hickman put Steve Kneeshaw in his place beating him by two seconds with a time of 10:58. Ralph Lilley took bronze
with 11:22.

Stalwart, Barrie Cappleman, came home with 11:53 while Colin Baldwin was really pleased coming under 12 minutes, but only just – with 11:59 but still 8 seconds away from his personal best.

Aero rider Cameron Turner clocked 12:05 with non-aero Matthew Enticknap a second after him. David Capes was dancing on the pedals for 12 minutes 50 seconds with Scott Johnson on his heels with 12:52. Glen Hull returns to club time trialling with 12:56 and brining up the rear was
16 year old Brandon Scott with 14:46.

10th July 2013 - 15m Time Trial

Picture
It was another glorious evening for Malton Wheelers once yearly 15mile Time trial that takes in Thornton-le-Dale and Pickering, not that the competitors would be taking in the views mind you.

Paul Hickman was again triumphant beating the course record by one second with a time of 33minutes 18 seconds. Matthew Enticknap (34:37) was rather pleased to have beaten Steve Kneeshaw (34:38) by only one second only to find out that Steve thought the finish was earlier therefore putting all his effort too soon and “blowing up” before the finish. Ralph Lilley was only 10 seconds behind though with 34:48 and just out of a podium position.

Mick Potter put in a cracking time of 36:55 showing the young guns what an old fellow can do on a bike. It was good to see Colin Baldwin back on his bike after a recent operation; he crossed the line in 37:39 and first non-aero rider.

There was a bit of a gap in times next with Duncan Humphries starting the ball rolling again and dancing on the pedals, he finished in 39:12, Scott Johnson was happy to finish this gruelling ordeal with 39:16, while David Capes finished in 39:21 and Dan Gadsby brought up the rear with a time of 41:21.

Pictured is Mick Potter and "Holder Upper" Jamie Strangeway.

3rd July 2013 - 10m Hilly

Picture
It was a pleasant evening with not too much wind for Malton Wheelers latest 10mile hilly Time Trial around the Hambleton Hills and Steve Kneeshaw rode them as though the course was flat. He put in a fantastic ride on this rolling course that passes through Slingsby and Conesthorpe in a time of 25:40 taking Gold position. Paul Hickman knew Steve was on form though predicting he would triumph. Paul finished second in 26:03 while Matthew Enticknap picked up bronze with 27:23. Last aero rider of the night was Ralph Lilley with 28:09.

Cameron Turner usualy rides an aero time trial cycle, but thought a change for the hilly course may be beneficial, but there are too many flats and downhills for a "normal" road bike to have any advantage over a TT bike on this course. He crossed the line in 29:15, although slightly better time compared to his last outing on his aero machine in absolutely awful conditions.

Scott Johnson beat his personal best by a minute with 29:28, with David Capes in eighth position with 30:14. Paul Wilsons aim is not to be last, unfortunately he brought home the lantern rouge with 30:30.

26 June 2013 - 5m Time Trial

Picture
The fight between Steve Kneeshaw and Paul Hickman continues on the Malton/Pickering road with Steve taking first position with an incredible 10:49 for the five mile distance, although 30 seconds shy of the course record, this is still a brilliant time for one who is relatively new to the sprot of Time Trialing. Paul still finished with a very good time of 11:03, with Ralph Lilley taking the bronze position with 11:20. Obviously the 170 mile charity ride Steve undertook on the weekend failed to slow him down.
Scott Johnson improved on his personal best by 30 seconds clocking a time of 12:05 beating tying riders riders Mick Potter and Mark Bentley with 12:20. Aero rider Barrie Cappleman crossed the line with 12:24, while Mr. Bradshaw stopped the clock two seconds under 13 minutes.
Brandon Scott (16 yrs, pictured) is putting in cracking times for a five mile Time Trial with 14:25 this week. If his form continues, he will be beating that magic 30 minute mark for a '10.

10m Time Trial 19 June 2013

Picture
Hickman Rules! With the traditional flat time trial ahead of him, he pounded the 10 mile route on the Malton/Pickering road with great power to come home first man with a time of 22:25, again beating Steve Kneeshaws 22:45. This was their best time of the year on this course. Matthew Enticknap (23:29) took bronze but Ralph Lilley was not far behind Enticknap with 23:37.

There was a slight wind for the return which usually slows the non-aero riders, but from a rather sluggish start, Colin Baldwin showed his strength rolling across the line with 24:45 infront of aero rider Barrie Cappleman 24:48. Barrie was pleased to come in under 25 minutes.

Mr Varley (25:26) beat Mark Bentleys 26:03 but David Capes beat his personal best with a time of 26:45. Brian Wallace rode a 27:28 with Paul Wilson, although pleased he didn't come last with a time of 27:51 had 16 year old Brandon Scott hot  on his heals.

10m Time Trial 12 June 2013

Picture
With the Malton Wheelers back on the Malton/Pickering road for their latest 10mile time trial, the blue skies were sure to dissapear to be replaced by looming black clouds and a gusty wind. The weather did not put 14 riders off though including one newcomer, Mark Bentley who joined on the night.

After a couple of hilly races where Steve Kneeshaw thrashed Paul Hickman (Pictured), it was Pauls turn to get his revenge on this flat course. Paul clocked up a time of 23:08 to Steves 23:29. Matthew Enticknap was disapointed with his time of 24:55 (more than a minute down from his usual time)putting it down to his saddle being in the wrong position and not being able to fully extend his legs and not getting the best out of his pedal stroke.

Scarborough Paragons Mick Potter and Barrie Cappleman rolled in 4th and 5th place with 25:22 and 25:45 with Maltons Colin Baldwin mixing it up with the aero men in 6th position with 26:03. Aero riders Cameron Turner and Sean McDermott finished in 26:07 and 26:13.

David Capes did a personal best of 27:04 with Scott Johnson only a few seconds away with 27:07, while in 11th place was newcomer Mark Bentley on his eye catching pink bike with a time of 27:22 which is a grand time for a first timer.

Last aero rider was Dave Frith from Clifton Cycling Club with 28:15. It was Sam Lengs first 10m test and finished before the 30 minute mark with 29:20, Brian Wallace brining in the rear with 29:24.

6m Leavening Scramble 5th June 2013

Picture
What wonderful weather! With a slight breeze from behind the times were sure to be high. This 6mile one way course from Norton to Leavening is a true tester in any conditions as there is not much room to recover from the efforts of honking the bike uphill.
Steve Kneeshaw trounced Paul Hickman again by 10 seconds with a time of 14:02. Although still 18 seconds off the course record set by Ged Kerrins in 2007, we are sure Kneeshaw will be chomping at the bit to beat this next time. A surprised Scott Johnson (15:42) took bronze beating an equally surprised Matthew Enticknap (15:46).
In fifth place was Cameron Turner with 15:52 and dancing on the pedals was Paul Wilson with 16:44. David Capes (16:53) had Sean McDermott at his heels only seven seconds back, while Time Davies (pictured) crossed the line with 17:36 with Sam Leng brining home the lantern rouge with a time of 18 minutes dead on.

10.5m Hilly Time Trial 29 May 2013

Picture
As expected, the rains did pour for last Wednesdays Malton Wheelers hilly 10.5mile Time Trial. It was also very cold and windy, so it was a surprise when seven riders turned up to put themselves against the elements.

Steve Kneeshaw finally put Paul Hickman in his place by whopping him into second place by 17 seconds finishing with 26:07 on the stopwatch to Pauls 26:24. Even the rain could not wipe the smile from Steves face. Matthew Enticknap (Pictured) finished in his regular third position with 26:50. Last of the aero riders was Cameron Turner with 29:32.

Scott Johnson is putting in some good times now with a few Time Trials under his belt and crossed the line in 30:22 while David Capes finished in
30:27.

Brandon Stock (16 yrs) survived the weather and finished in a very creditable 33:33. Hats off!

2. Paul Hickman (A) 26:24
3. Matthew Enticknap (A) 26:50

10m Time Trial 22 May 2013

Picture
What on earth is the weather up to? We are now heading into June and  Malton Wheelers Time Trials are being held in the most atrocious conditions. Last Wednesdays 10mile gallop on the Malton/Pickering road was undertaken by 14 riders, some would say they were crazy, others may say “Hard”. The wind and rain was on the riders backs to the turn at Old Malton so it was going to be a difficult trip back to the chequered flag.

The Wheelers regular winner, Paul Hickman, again took first prize with a time of 23:06 which is a cracking time considering he thinks himself as a fair weather racer. Steve Kneeshaw (pictured) and Matthew Enticknap completed the usual top three with 23:17 and 23:51. Ralph Lilley was not too far away from Enticknap with 24:05.

Cameron Turner returned to cycle racing after a season of running and crossed the line in 26:09 while Barrie Cappleman finished in 26:20.

First non-aero rider was Scott Johnson competing in his third time trial ever and beating his personal best by 40 seconds in a time of 26:57. 8th was Nigel Streicher 27:09, 9th was David
Capes 27:22, 10th was Paul Wilson 28:18, 11th was Dave Frith 28:22, 12th was Frank Tobin 28:35, 13th was Brian Wallace 29:03, but a special mention must go to Brandon Stock. Brandon has been competing in cyclo cross races for a number of years now and is admired by many finishing very highly in most of his races. The 10m time trial was his first and at a tender
age of 16 did fantastic to finish in 30:53. His aim for the season should be to get under that magic 30 minute mark and we wish him luck!

5m Time Trial 15 May 2013

Picture
On a day that was full of wind, rain and rather chilly weather, 12 riders joined forces to race on the Malton/Pickering road for the very small envelope while the sun actualy shone!

With little wind to speak off the times were going to be quite high and Paul Hickman again proved this point by rolling over the line first in 11:02, 4 seconds faster compard to his last outing. Steve Kneeshaw rode his first 5m Time Trial of the year and came in two seconds after Paul, while Matthew Enticknap bettered his last time by 5 seconds with 11:08.
Ralph Lilley was rather miffed that he was not on the podium, but still came in with 11:27.

Visitors from Scarborough Paragon Club, Mick Storey and Barrie Cappleman crossed the line in 11:40 and 12:22 taking fifth and sixth. This was one of Micks first races of the season after a long spell off the bike and replied with "well, I could loose a stone".

Scott Johnson clocked a time of 12:46 and first non-aero rider to return home. Sean McDermott came eighth with 13:03 and was not looking forward to the 13 minutes of pain at the start line. David Capes was a little slower by only two seconds compared to his last outing finishing in 13:15 while another newcomer, Paul Wilson finished in 13:17.

Regular rider, Frank Tobin came eleventh with 13:43 and Sam Leng brought home the lantern rouge with 14:23. This was Sams first time trial after trying his hand at Road Racing and was rather nervous at the start, but a little talk and instruction from Malton Wheelers members put him at ease.

10m Time Trial 8 May 2013

There was quite a strong side wind for Wednesday evenings 10mile Time Trial organised by Malton Wheelers Road Club which did not deter 14 hardy riders. The longer stretch of the course was the most difficult because most of the wind was in the riders faces, but the return leg was a “joy” to ride with the wind either on the riders back or side.

Paul Hickman scraped through for first place with a time of 23:20, but Steve Kneeshaw was hot on his heels only three seconds away. Matthew Enticknap took bronze with 23:38. Ralph Lilley was most upset not breaking the 24 minute mark with 24:01.

In fifth position, Scarborian Barrie Cappleman took 26:20 to cover the distance while the first rider on a standard bike, Colin Baldwin quickly followed with 26:23. Duncan Humphries was not far behind the two with 26:28.

Sean McDermott, our resident triathlete, crossed the line with 27:37. Only one second away though was first timer from Whitby, Scott Johnson. A time we are sure he will improve on.

David Capes put in a cracking time of 27:43 and a personal best at 10miles. Tim Davies came in with 28:02 and Frank Tobin with 29:15. Steve Suddaby finished in a time of 29:35 but bringing up the rear was new member, Brian Oakley with 30:43 exclaiming “That was harder than expected”.

5m Time Trial 1 May 2013

Picture
Considering the awful weather of recent times in Ryedale, the first club time trial of the season felt tropical. With hardly any wind to slow the competitors down, the evening was sure to be a fast one.

Paul Hickman starts as he left off from the 2012 season by finishing the five mile route on the Malton/Pickering road 6 seconds over 11 minutes which is an average speed of 27mph. Matthew Enticknap was very pleased with his result of 11:13. Perhaps the week long training camp in Majorca has paid off for these athletes. Finishing off the podium positions was Ralph Lilley with 11:43 a fine finish for the veteran!

In fourth position was Duncan Humphries on his new aero
machine. Although hoping he could do better, he crossed the line with a time of 12:28, but only 10 seconds away from him was Nick Hatton also riding a new aero cycle.

Colin Baldwin was the first non-aero rider and in sixth position in 12:50 averaging 23.4mph. Not to be sniffed at! Riding his first ever Time Trial was David Capes. David is an incredibly strong rider and at 60 years young is a rider to watch. His time of 13:13 is brilliant considering his 30 year old bicycle aswel.

Tim Davies rolled in with 13:46, then Steve Suddaby clocked up a time of 13:59 and is in training for a number of road races while Frank Tobin brought up the rear with 14:15. Frank, along with 14 other riders is in training for a charity coast to coast event in June in aid of Ryedale Special families so speed is not really what he is concerned with at the moment but pleased with his time for Malton Wheelers first club Time Trial of the season.
